Planned strike action suspended
Following negotiations between COSLA, Trade Unions and the Scottish Government, the strike action planned to start on 14 August has been suspended while unions ask their members to vote on accepting or rejecting the most recent national pay offer.
As a result, bin collections and street cleansing services will continue to run as normal.
If you have a kerbside collection, please put your bins out on your scheduled day.
We have received the following from the City of Edinburgh Counci
Industrial action – bin strikes
Members of the trade unions Unite and GMB have notified us of their intention to strike in Edinburgh from 5am on 14 August until 4.59am on 22 August. We are expecting significant disruption to bin collections, street cleansing services, recycling centres and some other services during this time.
This is a national dispute over pay, with strike action planned in other councils across the country unless agreement is reached. Discussions are ongoing between COSLA, trade unions and the Scottish Government with a view to agreeing a pay deal and resolving the dispute.
Should the strike go ahead, we are anticipating that
- there will be no bin collections or street cleaning services
- recycling centres will be closed
- our flytipping and special uplift services will be suspended
- public toilets will be closed.
