The Craigmillar Festival kicks off tomorrow and as you might have picked up the wonderful news that the Scottish Chamber Orchestra are launching a new 5-year residency in Craigmillar. I’ve been sitting in this news for months! They will be based at our Craigmillar Now building on Newcraighall Road and our gorgeous building features in the news coverage last night. With the return of The Craigmillar Festival this weekend it is worth remembering its history. Here’s an award winning documentary from 2006: https://www.plumfilms.co.uk/arts-the-catalyst-the-craigmillar-story/ And the Festival returns to mark the 100th anniversary of Craigmillar becoming part of Edinburgh: https://craigmillarfestival.org/
This was such a heart-warming local Newcraighall story from the Evening News this week, just had to be shared: https://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/people/ex-pupil-discovers-lost-world-war-one-memorial-plaque-in-edinburgh-school-3341425?fbclid=IwAR3ipHkr5_pzOGhvnzSAu0Uynxs4CTocuzky0uRTrChnA0LZ-iRL2mArTOE
The engagement (not yet a formal consultation) on a controlled parking zone for Portobello is open since Monday, but it got off to a bad start. First I knew of it was a leaflet through my door in which Councillors has no input. When it opened on Monday, the map assumed Kings Place would be included, but the community and Councillors have different plans for that space – definitely not a car park! Anyway do get on to the website, engage and help shape what goes out to formal consultation in due course. It includes new arrangements for communal bins too, by the way.
