Dear Sir / Madam
VARIOUS ROADS – EDINBURGH (SCHOOL STREETS)
PROPOSED PROHIBITION OF MOTOR VEHICLES
In September 2015 and March 2016, Experimental Orders were made to prohibit motor vehicles on roads in the vicinity of the following primary schools (with some exemptions): Abbeyhill, Colinton, Cramond, Duddingston, St John’s, Sciennes, Clermiston, St Peter’s and Towerbank.
The aim of these Orders was to reduce the amount of traffic on streets outside or around primary school entrances for periods at the beginning and end of the school day to create more attractive conditions for children to walk and/or cycle to and from school.
An evaluation report highlighting the positive progress achieved through the Experimental Orders at the various primary schools was approved by the Council’s Transport and Environment Committee on 30 August 2016, therefore in accordance with the terms of the Local Authorities’ Traffic Orders (Procedure) (Scotland) Regulations 1999, I write to inform you that the City of Edinburgh Council proposes to promote an Order which will introduce the aforementioned prohibition of motor vehicles on a permanent basis. The affected roads are shown on the attached plans.
Formal objections are not invited at this stage, as a further period will be allowed for the submission of objections when the proposals are formally advertised. It is intended to advertise the proposals at an early date and I should welcome any comments you may have to offer within 3 weeks of the date of this letter.
Yours faithfully
