TEDxPortobello, Sunday, 10 May, 2015 – Seeing Things Differently

TEDxPortobello is coming to Edinburgh’s seaside community on Sunday, 10 May, 2015 at TribePorty and will feature eight speakers from a range of different disciplines sharing their thoughts on the theme Seeing Things Differently. 


The TEDxPortobello team say: "We are excited to create a platform and build community around the stories, experience, and knowledge that exist in our neighbourhood and beyond.


"TEDx is a program of local, self-organised events licensed by TED – an international platform that believes in the spirit of ideas worth spreading. TED provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized. You can read more here: www.tedx.com. Our team is all volunteer run and we are partnering with Tribe Porty, a new social enterprise in the area."


TEDx Portobello speakers:
    Gavin Francis – Edinburgh GP and the award-winning author of Empire Antarctica, True North, and Adventures in Human Being.
    Dawn Thomson – Emotional Freedom Technique Master, Neuro-Linguistic Programming Practitioner and hypnotherapist.

    Max Scratchman – Storyteller and author, known for his dark illustrations and lively performance poetry.

    Onnagh O’Brien – Dr Oonagh O’Brien is an anthropologist researching gender, HIV and sexual health, and the impact of HIV treatment on social development in resource poor countries.

    Pablo D. Herrera Veitia – Internationally renowned hip hop music producer from Cuba who studied at the University of Edinburgh

    Sarah Drummond – Co-founder and director of Snook, an award winning Service Design global agency working empower people to make their ideas a reality; and spawned viral hack ‘Penny in Your Pants’.

    Jody Grieg – Former secondary teacher and magician, now Director of Flummix, using magic as an educational tool.

    Nicola Goodall – Revert Muslim who grew up with hip hop in Edinburgh, and works with women to build community knowledge about birth.
