In response to concerns raised by the public, Portobello Community Council is seeking the community’s views on proposals to create some dog free zones on the beach during the summer months. These would be designed to allow residents and visitors the opportunity to enjoy parts of the beach without the presence of dogs, particularly to allow free access for children, the elderly and others who can be unsettled by the presence of dogs. 

The beach zones would operate May to September between the hours of 10am and 6 pm. They would be self-enforcing and will not be subject to formal policing. Visitors to the beach will be encouraged rather than coerced into observing the zones.
